The Matriarch Adventure™
Namibia, October 2024

The Matriarch Adventure is the iconic flagship expedition encouraging women to step into the WILD….

“10 days, a group of women in the Namibian wilderness, tracking elusive desert elephants (the most iconic matriarchs there are), having an adventure, dawn yoga under huge flame-red skies, inspiration around a camp fire, sleeping out under a myriad of stars, meeting with Namibian women and hearing their story.... and all else that expedition life has to offer.”

Wilderness, transformation, conservation, beauty, wonder……

Deepest Peru ~ adventure into the heart of the Amazon, May 2025

NEW for 2025 - a rare opportunity to fully immerse yourself in one of the most biodiverse and pristine areas on earth.

Experience the dawn chorus like never before, follow troupes of monkeys deep into the forest, observe hundreds of macaws as they visit the nearby clay-lick, and spot cayman along the riverbanks at night.

At our base, accessible only by boat, you will witness the vibrant beauty of such a precious ecosystem, whilst learning about and contributing to vital conservation efforts. As with all my expeditions, we will be wonderfully remote, yet completely supported, encapsulating the ethos of truly ‘being’ in nature.

The Matriarch Adventure goes to Laos, January 2025

NEW for 2025 – a specially created adventure through the beautiful and remote country of Laos. Exploring the ancient relationship between elephant and mahout, our journey will take us up the mighty Mekong river from the UNESCO heritage city of Luang Prabang to the remote provinces where elephants are rescued from harsh logging and tourist camps and reintroduced into the wild.

This adventure mixes rustic charm with luxurious treats and immerses you in an exquisitely rich culture.

“I wanted to go out and change the world but I couldnt find a babysitter”

In June 2017 I was invited by TEDxLondon to speak to 1,500 people about The Matriarch Adventure. The theme of this conference was confidence, and I spoke about how having an adventure that was completely out of your comfort zone could give you the confidence to make changes to your everyday life.

How the Matriarch Adventure came about…

Step into the wild…

From my experience, much of our lives are planned, so much is predictable and routine, we live in isolation, separated from each other, our connection with each other and with the wonders of the world are fractured.  I strive to design an experience of full immersion into the beauty of the Namibian wilderness, not an itinerary of a well-trodden path.  I hope this will be a refreshing experience - one that will fill, challenge and stretch.  I want this to be an amazing once in a lifetime event, not something that you can buy off the peg.  I offer mystery rather than predictability, I'd love everyone to be able to switch off that part of the  brain that always needs to know what is happening next and replace it with the simplicity of being exactly where you are.

I believe, adventure in remote and extreme wilderness environments with other women, has a powerful, transformative effect, quickly stripping away the non-essential trappings of modern life in all its guises, (be they physical, social, or otherwise), replacing them with integrity, clarity and sisterhood. This new paradigm allows you to re-discover what it is to be a confident, self-reliant woman, and to return to your every-day lives supported and empowered.

Explore

True wilderness is hard to come by in our overcrowded planet, but here in the vast expanses of Namibia we have the space to explore both outwardly and inwardly. This is a journey to a part of the planet that has remained unchanged for millions of years, an expedition that takes us far far away from everything familiar, and in doing so helps you discover some truths about yourself.

Expeditions and adventures are not always comfortable either physically or emotionally, but it is the pushing of our own boundaries that stretches us and helps us grow.  My role is to hold that space to allow you to grow, to support you.  This journey is the most important journey of all, as this is where real change happens.

Desert Adapted Elephant Conservation

Every single expedition I have led, for the past 20 years has had a conservation element, and my relationship with these desert adapted elephants started in 2002 when I was leading for Raleigh International. During The Matriarch Adventure we work closely with EHRA (Elephant Human Relations Aid) learning about the work they do, getting to know the elephants and assisting them in collecting data.
